What does it mean to cure wax?

In candle making “cure” refers to the chemical process that takes place as the wax and fragrance oil bind and incorporates into each other. Think of it like a spaghetti sauce, chili, or a salsa—the flavors (or scents in this case) perform better after they’ve had some time to meld together with the wax—to “set.”

Does wax have to cure?

A: Curing is important to allow the fragrance oil to “spread out” into the wax evenly and provide the best scent throw possible. We recommend allowing your candles and tarts to cure for about a week for the best results.

Do wax melts need time to cure?

Allow a good few hours for them to set & fully solidify. We recommend storing your wax melts in a cool, dark place for approx. 2 weeks to ‘cure’. This isn’t essential however, so if you’re super excited to get melting a few hours after they’ve set, then that’s fine too!

How do you harden wax?

Place the additive ingredients into the wax, calculating the amounts in relation to the quantity of wax by weight and volume. Add 10 percent of stearin and one tablespoon of luster crystals or clear crystals per one pound of wax.

Do you cure candles with lids on or off?

Let your candles cure before test burning them. The minimum cure time is 3 days, while 1-2 weeks is the preferred curing time, especially for natural waxes such as soy and coconut. Place a lid on each candle and store them in a place away from excessive heat or light.

How long should palm wax cure?

Note: Palm wax gets harder over time so don’t wick too small if your candle hasn’t cured yet. Allow to cool for a minimum of 24 hours, 48 hours works best.

What happens if you put too much fragrance oil in a wax melt?

Adding too much fragrance oil can lead to impaired burning characteristics. Temperature at Which the Fragrance Was Added – Adding fragrance oil add too high of a temperature may cause it to dissipate, or burn off, in the melted wax.

What temperature do you add scent to soy wax?

180-185F
Add your fragrance at the right temp: Adding your fragrance oil when your wax is at the proper temperature will help it bind to the wax, which will help give you a stronger scent throw. It is usually recommended to add your fragrance to the wax at 180-185F for soy and paraffin wax 200-205F for palm wax.

What can I add to wax to make it harder?

How do you make your candles harder? By adding wax hardening agents, such as stearin, or clear or luster crystals, to the waxes.

Why does my candle have no hot throw?

Wick– Soy wax requires a hotter burning wick. This is because of the chemical bonds. These chemical bonds take more heat to break them down. No matter what type of wax you are using, always make sure that your wick size is large enough to provide ample hot scent throw, but not too large to create a fire hazard.
