How to use your CharmCard® on a Bus farebox
- Touch your card to the farebox target.
- It will deduct the correct fare, or read your pass product.
- Remember: the farebox will read pass products first and if no pass products are loaded on your card, the proper fare will be deducted.
How much does a SmarTrip card cost?
A permanent, rechargeable farecard that can hold up to $300 in stored value to pay fares for Metrorail, Metrobus and other participating transit agencies as well as parking fees at Metro operated facilities. The card costs $2 and comes with $8 in stored fare value for a total price of $10.
Can I use CharmPass on Metro?
CharmPass is the official mobile ticketing app for MDOT MTA. For the first time ever, you can pay for BaltimoreLink local buses (CityLink, LocalLink, and Express BusLink), Light RailLink, Metro SubwayLink, MARC Train, and Commuter Bus services directly from your smartphone.

Do charm cards expire?
At a ticket vending machine you have different options. You may add up to $200 of cash value to your card and you may add a 1-Day, 7-Day or 30-Day pass product to your card. The pass validity does not begin until you first use it and will continue for the specified number of days on your pass.
How do you load a charm card?
Simply call 1-888-SmarTrip and a new CharmCard® will be issued with your current card balance loaded on it minus a $2.50 card replacement fee. You no longer have to go to a pass sales outlet to purchase your pass. Now you can purchase your pass product and load it to your card at ticket vending machine.
Can two people use same SmarTrip card?
Can more than one person use a SmarTrip® card for the same ride? No, you cannot share a SmarTrip® card; each rider must have his or her own card. However, you do not need a SmarTrip® card to ride.
Does CVS sell SmarTrip cards?
SmarTrip cards are also available at Giant Food stores, commuter stores, college campuses and the Metro sales office at Metro Center. But CVS is by far the largest retailer of the fare cards; it has three times as many stores in the program as Giant.
Do Charmpass tickets expire?
Yes, the expiration date and time is displayed on the ticket. If your ticket expires and turns “gray” you may complete your trip, but you may not use the expired ticket to board another ride.
Can you use SmarTrip on MARC train?
Spanning 187 miles, the MARC Train Service (MARC) is an integral component of Maryland’s transportation system. While MARC and VRE do not accept SmarTrip® to cover fares, commuters are permitted to use SmartBenefits® (via a registered SmarTrip® card) to purchase MARC and VRE rail tickets through Commuter Direct.
Can I use my SmarTrip card on Marc?
The SmartBenefits Dashboard lets you see your card’s upcoming benefit status and monthly benefit as well as the contact information for your SmartBenefits Administrator. To access your Dashboard, login to your SmarTrip account; click on the card you use for SmartBenefits, and then click “Manage SmartBenefits”.
Can I add money to my charm card online?
Associate a CharmCard® or SmarTrip Card® with the account. Enter a valid credit card in the billing information. Select the smartcard that you will use for auto reloads. Choose the products and click the “Add & Set up Auto Reload” button.
